** Python for Scientific Computing
- A brief introduction to the Python programming language
- An overview of how Python can be used for scientific computing

At the end of the lecture there will be a practical session where we
will implement some simple computations using Python.

** Multilevel Methods for HPC
*** Part 1
- Model problems and some methods for solving them
- Overview of the ideas behind multigrid
- The simple iterative methods at the basis of multigrid
- Convergence analysis of iterative methods
- Numerical results
*** Part 2
- Exploiting the special properties of simple iterations
- Components of a multigrid method
- Convergence analysis
- Numerical results
- Variations and extensions
*** Computer Lab Session
In the practical session, we will implement a multigrid method.
We start by implementing and testing the simple iterative
methods that will form the building blocks for the multigrid method.
Using this experience, we implement the other components of the
multigrid method.
Finally we combine all the components and test the resulting multigrid
algorithm.
